A bit about me…

I have worked in education for the last 11 years and I am most proficient in AQA GCSE Geography and CIE A Level Geography. I now work as an independent educator, tutoring students in GCSE and A Level Geography across a variety of exam boards including AQA, Edexcel and OCR. This has given me a broad and expansive understanding of the various specifications for Geography.

I have always been passionate about the importance of fieldwork and fieldtrips in Geography. Studying the natural world or human spaces inside the classroom can only ever be half of the story– students need to be given the opportunity to experience it. That’s why in my previous schools I’ve been focused on setting up and developing the best fieldwork opportunities, from residentials in Naples, Sicily and Iceland; to school-based fieldwork activities; to specification-specific trips in coastal and river environments. Nothing enthuses me more when I am out and about than seeing something which I have taught.

Why I love being a Teacher Tour Leader…

I first visited Iceland in 2020 and can’t stop going back– at this point, I think it is a bit of an addiction. Every time I return, there is something different. It could be that it’s a different season or, you know, just a casual volcanic eruption! The Reykjanes peninsula is one of the most exciting environments on Earth right now and witnessing the gradual transition in the physical landscape as well as the interactions between humans and hazards is truly a privilege.

My favourite place in Iceland…

When touring groups in Iceland, each day brings a new sense of awe and wonder, so my favourite place on a trip tends to change daily! I do particularly like slightly less touristic areas though, particularly the Thorsmork Valley – the views having hiked to the top of Valhanukar during an Icelandic summer’s day are quite something!

My favourite activity in Iceland…

It is very hard to choose. The Lava Show is like nothing else in this world! As for being outdoors, hiking on the Solheimjokull glacier is unmatched for excitement and scenery. I also have a very nerdy soft-spot for the Hellisheiði Power Station which is so fascinating and deeply informative.
